Hey there, fellow shooters! Thanks for joining me for this month's drill. We're diving into the exciting Shooter Ready Challenge, featuring the all-new six-plate rack challenge module added to LASR X. Even if you don't have access to LASR X or the latest equipment, I encourage you to follow along and enhance your skills from home.
The Essential SIRT Pistol
Shot Indicating Resetting Trigger. I prefer the Glock Model 110 RR, equipped with a red laser. You don't need the fanciest models to get results, but options with green lasers are available. Notably, SIRT Pistols are now available for various models, including Glock, Smith & Wesson, and the newly released Sig P320.
While the SIRT Pistol may be more of an investment, it's an invaluable training tool. You can choose one that matches your everyday carry or range gun, even if it's not a Glock. The SIRT Pistol has helped me improve my skills, even when I didn't carry Glocks regularly.
Alternatives for Dry Fire Training
If you prefer not to invest in a SIRT Pistol, you can still participate in the six-plate rack challenge. One alternative is using a double-action firearm, like my Sig Sauer SP2022, with a laser cartridge. Although the trigger reset may differ, it's a cost-effective option for those on a budget.
However, using a striker-fired gun, like my favorite Sig P365 XL, may not work as smoothly for this challenge because it requires resetting the striker for each shot. But remember, even without LASR X, you can practice the shooter challenge drills at home with your regular, safely unloaded pistol. Dry fire training remains a valuable tool.
The Six Plate Rack Challenge
The much-anticipated challenge is the six-plate rack. We've been preparing for this with previous drills involving multiple targets. Multiple targets mean transitions become crucial, and the ability to move swiftly from one target to another plays a significant role.
I'm using a printable target for this challenge, which you can find within the LASR X software. But if you have trouble calibrating it for your setup, you can find a modified version on our website.
Accuracy, Speed, and Balance
Just like in our previous challenges, we start with the accuracy phase. This lets us concentrate on clean shots and accurate hits, emphasizing good trigger control and sight alignment. You'll notice that the draw, acquiring the target, and taking your time between shots is crucial.
After the accuracy phase, we transition into the speed phase. Here, accuracy isn't as heavily weighted as speed, and we focus on pushing our limits, which makes smooth and quick transitions between targets even more important.
In the final balanced phase, we aim for the sweet spot between accuracy and speed, the ultimate goal in real-world shooting situations.
Optimizing Your Dry Fire Training with LASR X
To fully benefit from LASR X software, ensure it's properly set up on your preferred device. You can use it on laptops, webcams, iPhones, or Androids. If you haven't signed up for LASR X yet, I highly recommend it for comprehensive dry-fire training.
Adding Movement to Your Drills
Once you've mastered the stationary drills, consider adding movement. You can start in different positions, simulate drawing and moving into position, or try various scenarios. This dynamic approach to dry fire training keeps your skills sharp and prepares you for real-world shooting situations.
